A positive program

A group of about 30 local emergency services personnel gathered last Saturday morning at the Cobden Community Park. Those present were taking part in a training program which focused on the utilization of a helicopter in an emergency situation.

The program was sponsored by the Cobden Volunteer Fire Department. Personnel from the Cobden and Alto Pass fire departments, the Union County Ambulance Service and the Union County rescue squad took part in the training.

Saturday's program was a positive development for several reasons.

The firefighters who serve Cobden and Alto Pass are volunteers. These folks sacrifice their own time to keep their families, friends and neighbors safe. They are to be commended, and thanked, for their service.

And on Saturday, they again gave their time to learn how to help the community during an emergency situation. Such training can be critical in a life-and-death situation.

The Cobden Volunteer Fire Department is to be commended for offering Saturday's training program. We thank all of those who took the time to participate.
