Rain could ease conditions which led to local burn ban

The possibility of heavy rain could ease concerns which led to the issuing of a burn ban in Union County.

Union County Sheriff David Livesay announced the burn ban Friday, Feb. 18.

The sheriff announced "that a ban on all open burning will be in place in the county until further notice."

The ban was imposed because of recent weather conditions in the area which include strong winds and low humidity.

Anyone who violated the ban faced a fine, the sheriff noted.

Numerous field and grass fires had been reported in the area during the past week.

Rain is in the forecast for the period beginning Thursday, and continuing through Monday.
