Relay For Life a success
To the editor,
As chairperson of this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life committee, I would like to thank the residents of Union County for their generosity and support that made this year’s event such a success.
It makes me so proud to know the amount of support from the team captains, team members, and the committee that I have received this year.
Thanks to you, Relay For Life of Union County had 32 teams participate, celebrated alongside 60 survivors, lit over 1,234 luminaria to honor loved ones, and raised more than $105,000 for cancer research, community educational programs, advocacy initiatives, and support services for patients and their families throughout our community. What a commitment to fight back against cancer, not just today, but throughout the year.
I would like to applaud our cancer survivors who participated in the Relay For Life opening lap and survivor recognition. Thank you for giving us all the hope, strength and courage to continue the fight.
Special thanks also goes out to the amazing volunteers who worked so hard to ensure this event was a great one and to this year’s generous corporate sponsors. Relay For Life would not be possible without them.
It is not too late to donate to this year’s Relay, nor too early to organize a team for next year’s event. Thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Union County and for joining with us to “Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.”
Sincerely, Wayne Miller, 2009 Relay For Life Chairperson
