Republican candidate for governor pays visit to Union County Friday

With only a few more weeks to go in the 2010 election campaign, Bill Brady is a confident candidate.

Brady is the Republican candidate for governor of Illinois. He will face incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn in the Nov. 2 general election.

Last Friday afternoon, Brady brought his campaign to Union County.

He paid a visit to Union County Republican Party headquarters on South Main Street in downtown Anna.

Brady's campaign was making a visit to Southern Illinois last week, traveling aboard the Clean Break Express, a large coach bus.

He was greeted by a large and enthusiastic crowd during his visit to Union County.

The candidate's confidence showed when he was asked about "if" he were to be elected governor of Illinois.

"When," not if, he quickly stated.

Brady said Illinois voters are looking for "leadership" and "common sense" in Springfield. He added that voters "are tired of runaway spending."

The candidate said that should he become governor,  his accomplishments during a first term in office would include:

The state's bills would be paid. Illinois would have the lowest jobless rate in the United States. The state's debt would be paid down. Illinois would be the most job-friendly state in the nation.

Brady told those gathered at Republican Party headquarters that he would not raise taxes as governor.

"You don't raise taxes and increase spending during these recessionary times," he said.
