'Rokerthon 2' slated to include area visit
<p class="p1">The Southeast Missouri State University community is being invited to sport their Southeast red as NBC’s Today Show’s Al Roker broadcasts the weather live from the Cape Girardeau riverfront on Tuesday, Nov. 10.</p><p class="p1">"1 Man, 50 States, 1 Week: Rokerthon 2, Taking America By Storm” is scheduled to arrive in Cape Girardeau as Roker attempts The Guinness Book of World Records title for the Fastest Time to Report a Weather Forecast from All 50 States and the District of Columbia. </p><p class="p1">Cape Girardeau will serve as Missouri’s broadcast location. </p><p class="p1">The broadcast is part of an effort by NBC’s Today Show to bring back last-year’s Rokerthon, when Al Roker broadcast a record-breaking 34 straight hours of weather coverage.</p><p class="p1">Rokerthon 2 is scheduled to kick off in Hawaii Friday, Nov. 6, and wraps up on Rockefeller Plaza on Friday, Nov. 13. </p><p class="p2">The live broadcast from Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, Nov. 10, will kick off that day’s weather reporting extravaganza that takes Roker and friends to Fort Defiance in Cairo, Illinois; Wickliffe, Kentucky; Union City, Tennessee; Blytheville, Arkansas; Goshen, Indiana; Coldwater, Michigan; and Montpelier, Ohio.</p><p class="p1">Roker is scheduled to broadcast the weather live from Cape Girardeau’s Riverfront Park from 6 a.m. to 6:10 a.m. Nov. 10. </p><p class="p1">The website for Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau reported that area residents can welcome Roker and the Today Show to Cape Girardeau at Riverfront Park. </p><p class="p1">The crowd is asked to be in place at Riverfront Park no later than 5:30 a.m. and to enter through the flood gate at the intersection of Themis and Water streets. </p>
