Soil, water district open house set
<p class="p1">Union County Soil and Water Conservation District directors invite the community to attend an open house which is planned Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the USDA building in Anna.</p><p class="p1">Doors open for the event at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. The USDA building is located at 201 Springfield Ave.</p><p class="p1">The Union County Soil and Water Conservation District's directors are Carlyn Light, Larry Hale, Dana Eddleman, Kent Treece and Bill Littrell.</p><p class="p1">Activities are planned throughout the day. The schedule includes voting for three directors on the district's board.</p><p class="p1">Voting also is planned for the county winner of a 5th grade poster contest. Each school in the county has entered a poster created by a 5th grader from their school.</p><p class="p1">The theme for this year's contest is "We All Need Trees."</p><p class="p1">The county poster contest winner will be sent to the state contest for conservation districts in Illinois.</p><p class="p1">The open house is a come and go at your leisure event. Speakers are scheduled to give presentations about cover crops at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.</p><p class="p1">A free lunch of submarine sandwiches and pizza is planned from noon to 1 p.m. The lunch will be provided by Dan Smith with 5 Smith Seeds Inc.</p><p class="p1">Information about the open house is available by contacting the Union County Soil and Water Conservation District/NRCS office at 833-5666, extension 3.</p>
