Speed limit changes set in Cobden

<p class="p1">Changes are planned in speed limits in the Village of Cobden.</p><p class="p1">The Illinois Department of Transportation, IDOT, recently concluded engineering and speed studies along old U.S. Highway 51 in Cobden.</p><p class="p1">IDOT shared the outcome of the studies in a letter to village officials.</p><p class="p1">The department reported that results from the studies indicated that the existing 35 mile-per-hour speed limit at the north end of Cobden between Locust Street and North Centennial Street should be reduced to 25 mph.</p><p class="p1">The 35 mph speed limit will extend from Locust Street to approximately 900 feet north along old Highway 51.</p><p class="p1">An existing 45 mph speed limit at approximately  140 feet north of Chestnut Street will be reduced to 35 mph and will extend south to approximately 60 feet north of the entrance to the Union County Housing Authority.</p><p class="p1">IDOT said that the action "should help increase safety in these areas."</p><p class="p1">The change will be made as soon as work crews can be mobilized to the area, the department reported.</p><p class="p2"> </p><p class="p2"> </p>
