Cobden American Legion junior team starts 2-1
The Cobden American Legion junior baseball team posted a 2-1 record in summer season opening action.
Cobden 3, Carbondale 1: Austin Lewey and Dylan Duty were each 2-for-3 at the plate to lead visiting Cobden to the win Friday, June 10.
Zane Nance was 2-for-4. Bryce Reynolds, Trevor Middleton and Cody Wieseman were each 1-for-3.
Bayden Ditterline was the winning pitcher with a four-hitter to go with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Cobden 13, Crab Orchard 2: John Russell was the winning pitcher with a four-hitter for visiting Cobden at the Johnston City ball diamond Thursday, June 9. He had no walks and 6 strikeouts.
Ditterline was 3-for-4 to lead Cobden. Lewey, Middleton and Nance were each 2-for-4. Chandler Edwards was 1-for-1. Brayden Clark was 1-for-3. Reynolds was 1-for-5.
Goreville 13, Cobden 1: Ditterline was 2-for-3 to lead visiting Cobden in the season-opening loss Wednesday, June 8.
Lewey, Chandler West and Clayton Flamm were each 1-for-2. Reynolds was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Duty was 1-for-3.
Ditterline was the losing pitcher, scattering 13 hits to go with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Cobden is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at Orient against West Frankfort.
Cobden opens its home game season at 8 p.m. Monday against Crab Orchard.
