Cobden Legion baseball wins district tourney
The Cobden American Legion baseball team topped host West Frankfort 13-2 to win the 25th Junior East District Tournament Sunday, July 16.
Cody Wieseman was 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs to lead Cobden to the win.
Landon Britt was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and 3 RBIs. Josh Burgess was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Bayden Ditterline was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Brayden Clark was 1-for-3.
Ditterline was the winning pitcher. He pitched 5 innings and allowed 7 hits to go with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Cobden 9, Goreville 5: Burgess was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to lead Cobden to its first game win Saturday, July 15.
Wieseman was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Landon Britt and Noah Franklin were each 1-for-2 with an RBI apiece. Chandler West was 1-for-2. Ditterline was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.
Chandler West, Wieseman and Ditterline pitched in the win.
West pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up 6 hits to go with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Wieseman pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up 6 hits to go with no walks or strikeouts.
Ditterline pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up no hits, a walk and had no strikeouts.
Cobden, 8-4, advances to play in the 5th Division tournament at Steeleville at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Cobden plays Teutopolis in the double elimination event.
