FCA camp held at Anna Junior High
The 2017 Union County Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCA, Power Camp was held July 5-7 for the ninth year at Anna Junior High School in Anna.
The camp was open to any Union County student in 5th through 8th grades.
Tony Foeller, who has directed the camp since its beginning, said that 82 campers and huddle leaders were present over the three days, along with two dozen coaches.
The camp provides sports clinics and competitions for the students in an environment that encourages prayer and faith in God, in addition to good sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork.
The 2017 FCA camp theme is “One,” referring to Philippians 1:27, which stresses having “one spirit and one purpose.”
The camp is free to students through the support of funding generated by an annual A-J golf scramble at the Union County Golf Course. The fundraiser also helps to provide lunch for campers each day.
Guest lunch speakers included SIU director of track and field and national champion track athlete Kathleen Raski, former SIU baseball player Josh Alley and Southern Illinois FCA director Roger Lipe.
Foeller said that the experience he’s enjoyed most in the nine years of FCA camps in Union County is “seeing kids that are kind of on the edge being fully engaged by the camp.”
