Anna-Jonesboro Community High School’s Blake Mays has advanced to the Illinois High School Association Class 1A state wrestling tournament.
The tournament is scheduled Thursday, today, through Saturday at the State Farm Center in Champaign.
Mays, who wrestles in the 126-pound weight class, earned a spot at state by finishing in fourth place at the Class 1A sectional at Vandalia Saturday, Feb. 14.
A-J wrestlers who advanced as alternates are Arojae Hart, 120 pounds, and Caleb Mays, 132 pounds.
Six wrestlers from A-J competed at the sectional in Vandalia.
A-J wrestling coach Chase Hargrave said the sectional featured very tough competition.
