Wildcats open season with victory
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ basketball team opened its season with eight 3-pointers in a 51-37 win over Hamilton County in first-round action of the Goreville Tournament Monday, Nov. 26.
Cameron Tweedy and Carson Reynolds had back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the game as the Wildcats built a 16-6 first quarter lead.
Noah Overstreet added a pair of 3-pointers and Tweedy added another to open the second quarter on A-J’s way to a 28-20 halftime advantage.
Tyler Smith added a 3-pointer in the third quarter as A-J held a 43-28 advantage going into the final frame.
Reynolds added the final 3-pointer in the final quarter.
Smith led the way with 13 points. Blake Pena added 10 points, Reynolds 8, Overstreet 7 and Ta’Kevon Williford 2.
A-J was 11 of 26 from the field, 8 of 16 from 3-point range and 5 of 13 from the free throw line.
The Wildcats, 1-0, who are the defending tourament champions, were to have played Benton earlier this week.
