Stone earns recognition
Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball player Jessi Stone has been awarded All-State Special Mention by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
The Lady Wildcats senior was a four-year starter and averaged 14.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. She was also a 72 percent free throw shooter.
“She was a great kid and a good leader,” A-J coach Brian Clark said. “It will be a big hole for us to fill next year.”
Stone finished her prep basketball career with 976 points, just 24 points short of the 1,000-point career plateu.
Clark said several colleges have shown interest in Stone for basketball, but said she plans to try out for the track team this fall at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Griardeau.
She will compete this spring in field events for the Lady Wildcats track team.
