Students honored

The Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars continued a special tradition over the weekend.

The local VFW post paid tribute to students from throughout Union County. Scholarships and other honors were presented to the students in recognition of a wide range of achievements.

The VFW has hosted this special event for a number of years. The scholarships presented by the organization help many of the best and brightest young people from our community to continue their educations.

We commend the Anna VFW post for continuing this fine program, and for honoring some of the best students in our community.

<strong>Special presentations</strong>

Two other recent events involving local students also deserve recognition.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Cinderella" was staged at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. Shakespeare's "Macbeth"  was performed at Cobden High School.

Each production involved a lot of dedicated hard work involving the students of our community, as well as the adults who helped with the presentations.

We take this opportunity to recognize those involved in each of the stage productions – both of which deserve "two thumbs up."
