Union County man indicted in kidnapping case

A Union County man has been indicted in connection with the October kidnapping of a local woman.

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds reported Tuesday, Dec. 7, the indictment against Bradley Scott Schlenker, 37, of 965 Toll Gate Rd. in rural Anna.

Schlenker was indicted by a Union County grand jury with the Oct. 25 kidnapping of a woman from Anna.

Edmonds said that Schlenker is charged with five counts of aggravated kidnapping, all Class X felonies; one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, a Class X felony; two counts of aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony and a Class 4 felony; one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony; and one count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, a Class 4 felony.

Schlenker is alleged to have abducted his former girlfriend on the night of Monday, Oct. 25, and to have held her for several hours.

Schlenker also is alleged to have stabbed the victim before he was apprehended by Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the intersection of Quarry Road and new U.S. Highway 51 north of Anna.

Edmonds reported that Schlenker was arraigned on the grand jury indictments Tuesday morning at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro before Presiding Judge Mark Boie.

A pre-trial conference has been set for 9 a.m. on Jan. 4, 2011. A jury trial date of Jan. 24, 2011, has been set.

Schlenker remains in custody at the Tri-County Detention Center in Ullin. His bond is $500,000.
