Union County Records Again Available

County records once again are accessible to those interested in doing genealogical research.

The records are stored at the Union County clerk's office. The office is located on the first floor of the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

Following the severe winter storm which struck the Union County area in late January, leaks developed in the roof over the area where the records were stored.

The records were moved to a safe location, but were not available to those who might have wanted to do research into their family history.

Clean-up and repair work now has been completed, and the records once again are available, Union County Clerk Bobby Toler Jr. said this week.

The clerk's office is home to family records dating to the beginning of Union County in 1818.

Toler said his office has marriage records dating to 1818. Information about births and deaths dating to 1878 also are available.

The county clerk said local residents, as well as people from around the country, visit his office on a regular basis to conduct genealogical research.

The county clerk's office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday (the office is closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch).
