<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Walter H. Cherrick, 89, of Anna, died at 2:00 AM, Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at St. Johns Hospice in Springfield, IL.</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">He was born on March 15, in St. Louis, MO to Abraham and Essie (Magidson) Cherrick.<span style=""> </span> He married Selma Goldstein on February 10, 1946 in Newark, NJ.<span style=""> </span> She preceded him in death on May 28, 1996.</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII.<span style=""> </span> He was in the Battle of the Bulge and also served in Austria.<span style=""> </span> He was Post Master of Anna Masonic Lodge #520, he also had honorary Masonic Lodge Memberships in Jonesboro #111, Cobden #466, Dongola #581, Cairo #237, and Murphysboro #498.<span style=""> </span> He was Past Commander-Townsend F. Dodd Post American Legion.<span style=""> </span> He served as chairman of Emergency Food and Shelter, he was on the Board of Directors of United Fund and RAVE.<span style=""> </span> He was a member of the VFW Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 and served as Post Commander from 1993-1994.<span style=""> </span> He was a member of the Anna Moose Lodge and Elks.<span style=""> </span> He had served as the Zoning Inspector for the City of Anna.<span style=""> </span> Mr. Cherrick owned and operated Gamm Shoe store until his retirement.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">He is survived by 1 son, Alan L. (Roberta) Cherrick of Springfield, IL;</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">1 grandson Dale Samuel Cherrick of Waukegan</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">1 granddaughter Esther Michal Cherrick of Springfield, IL;</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">1 brother, Gilbert Cherrick, M.D. of St. Louis, MO.</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 11:00AM at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery, 9123 Ladue Rd., St. Louis, MO, <span style=""> </span>with Rabbi Michael Datz of<span style=""> </span> Temple B’Rith Sholom of Springfield, IL, officiating.<span style=""> </span></span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund, Parkinson’s Research or Temple B’Rith Sholom.<span style=""> </span> Envelopes will be available at Crain Funeral Home. <span style=""> </span></span></strong></p>
