Wildcats upset Harrisburg to win regional baseball title
With a 5-4 upset victory over number one seed Harrisburg, the Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats won a Class 2A regional baseball championship Saturday, May 23.
The third-seeded Wildcats defeated Harrisburg in the title game at the Carterville regional.
A-J rallied from a 4-3 deficit to score the big win and advance to sectional play.
Cody Wheaton pitched a complete game victory for the Wildcats. He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits.
Leading the team in hitting was Jordan Adams, who was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs.
Adams had a big double in the sixth inning. His hit knocked in two runs: one tied the game and the other gave A-J the margin of victory.
Cody Livesay was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Gabe Pecord was 2-for-3.
Matt Smith and Brady James were both 1-for-2. Cody Wheaton and Luke Partridge were both 1-for-4.
A-J improved to 13-15 with the victory. The Wildcats are scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, today, against Mt. Carmel at the Harrisburg sectional.
First round action
Brady James was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 home runs to lead the Wildcats to a 7-1 win over host and number two seed Carterville in the first round of the Class 2A regional on Thursday, May 21.
Luke Partridge and Shawn Stone pitched in the win. Partridge allowed 1 run on 8 hits. Stone didn’t allow any hits.
Matt Smith was 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Brady Wright was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a triple.
Gabe Pecord was 1-for-3 with a double. Partridge was 1-for-3. Cody Wheaton was 1-for-4.
