Four Union County area high school athletes are playing this summer on the Cape Girardeau American Legion baseball squad.

Results from some of the Cape Girardeau team’s recent games follow:

Cape Giradeau 5, Paducah 0: Tyler Glidewell pitched the 6th and 7th inning and recorded 2 strikeouts in the win.

Brady James and Tyler Brant played 1st and 2nd base, respectively.

Cape Girardeau 11, Calvert City 0: James was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs in the win.

Brant was 1-for-3 and scored 2 runs.

Plans are moving forward to have a "Curb Day" event in Anna.

The event was discussed at this week's regular meeting of the Anna City Council.

The meeting was Tuesday evening at Anna City Hall.

City council member Cindy Swope has been working on having a Curb Day in Anna.

Swope said she learned about Curb Day by reading an article in a newspaper.

Curb Day was originated by a New York resident as a way to reduce the number of items going into landfills. The first Curb Day was in May.

To the editor,

Once again we hear the wailing from Springfield for more tax money. I see that we tax payers have been threatened and our political leaders will cut law enforcement, let convicts loose on the streets, cut education funding and medical services if we don’t give in.

First of all I don’t respond very well to threats, but that aside I have several questions and anxiously await some answers.

Robbie Wright has been hired as Anna-Jonesboro Community High School’s boys’ basketball coach for the  2009-2010 season.

Wright was hired at last week’s regular meeting of the A-JCHS District 81 Board of Education.

“I’ve watched them play two or three times,” Wright said about the Wildcats. “There is some talent coming back. We have quickness, size and can shoot. I think we’ve got a chance to have a pretty good team.”

 Wright said he would employ his own coaching techniques with the Wildcats.
