Harold, Wanda Hase celebrate 60th anniversary

nna will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Friday, June 5.

Junior and Wanda Dunaway were married on June 5, 1949, in Ullin, with Wardell and Alta Barnhart as their attendants.

The couple began their married life in the Perks area before eventually moving to the family farm near Ullin.

In 2007, they moved to 180 Lucas Hap Rd. in Anna.

They have three children, Janet (Gerald) Cruse and Joyce (Marion) Hill, all of Dongola, and Jerry (Sheila) Hase of Anna.

Trivia night will aid family

A trivia night event is planned to help the Brett and Amber Detering family of Union County.

The event is scheduled for Saturday evening, June 27, at the VFW post near Anna.

All proceeds will go to help with paying for Austin Detering’s medical expenses.

Doors are scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Trivia will begin at 7 p.m.

Snacks can be brought in, but all beverages must be purchased at the facility.

Tables are available for $120, with a maximum of eight people per table.

William H. Casey

    William H. Casey, 75, of Jonesboro, died at 8:45 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at his home in Jonesboro. He was born July 25, 1933, in Wolf Lake, the son of Jesse Glasco and Curtis Edith Land Casey.

Fatal wreck Saturday near Cobden

A Carbondale man sustained fatal injuries in a single-vehicle traffic accident which happened early Saturday afternoon in Union County.

Authorities identified the victim as Larry W. Lipe, 58.

The accident happened at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday in a sharp curve along old U.S. Highway 51 just north of Cobden.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lipe was driving a motorcycle south on Highway 51 when he lost control of the vehicle.

The motorcycle ran off the road and struck a culvert.

Dongola Homecoming planned this Saturday

The 2009 Dongola Homecoming is planned Saturday, June 27.

The annual celebration is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Dongola School grounds.

Dongola High School classes of 1948 through 1955 are planning to have a reunion this weekend.

Masters of ceremony for the homecoming will be Dongola School superintendent Brett Gayer and Paul Sadler, the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Dongola.

A-J girls qualify for six events at state track meet

Anna-Jonesboro qualified in six events for the Class A high school girls’ state track meet in competition at the Carterville sectional Friday, May 15.

The top two finishes in each event or qualifying distances and times advance athletes to the state track meet at Charleston, which is scheduled Thursday, today.

Finishing in first place for the Lady Wildcats were:

Elizabeth Bell in the 800-meter run in 2:26.03.

Kaylee Little in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.68.
