James W. “Bill” Rutherford, 75, of Bush, died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at his residence with his family by his side.

He was born on May 1, 1934, in Bush, the son of John R. and Pearl Hester Rutherford.

He married Linda Shelton Rutherford on Dec. 24, 1954, in Hurst. They were married for 54 years.

Mr. Rutherford was retired. He worked at Maytag in Herrin for 43 years. He was a member of the IAM union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

A Union County man has been sentenced to serve four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced the sentencing of Loy N. Casper, 58, of Jonesboro, on the charges.

Aggravated DUI is a Class 2 felony. Driving with a suspended license is a Class 4 felony.

The Anna-Jonesboro High School girl’s basketball team should be improved in all aspects of its game this season.

“We have a lot of speed this year,” A-J coach George Lenon said. “The kids have been in the weight room (during the offseason) so we’ll be a lot stronger rebounding and we’ll be better shooters than last year.”

The Lady Wildcats return four starters from last year’s 7-19 squad.
